The Teach Me Program

Teach Me is a one-to-one program based on the principals of Applied Behavior Analysis. ABA is an intensive, structured teaching program. Lessons to be taught are broken down to their simplest elements. Children are presented with a stimulus through repeated trials. Positive reinforcement is used to reward correct responses and behaviors, and incorrect responses are ignored

The Teach Me program was developed at Mitchell’s Place to serve children who may need one-to-one guidance while in the classroom.

Children in this program will be given a therapist who will work along with them while in the classroom as well as working one-to-one in a discrete trial format away from the classroom, in a less distracting environment that is tailored to learning.

Discrete Trial teaching is a specific method of teaching used to maximize learning. The teaching strategy involves:

1. Breaking skills into the smallest steps

2. Teaching each step of the skill intensively until mastered

3. Providing lots of repetition

4. Prompting the correct response and fading the prompts as soon as possible

5. Using positive reinforcement.

Specific programs are developed based on the child’s needs these programs are developed by data driven decisions based on the child’s progress. o Our programming takes a holistic approach to learning and concentrates on different areas such as focus, attention, compliance, academics, behavior, classroom readiness, fine/gross motor, sensory, language and social skills.
