The Teach Me Program

“Teach Me” is a one-to-one program based on the principals of Applied Behavior Analysis. Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA, is the systematic study of variables that influence behavior.  Features of ABA approaches include the objective measurement of behavior, the precise control of the environment, and the use of procedures based on scientific principles of behavior, including discrete trial training (DTT). DTT involves a number of doctrines, including:

  • Breaking skills into small, attainable tasks
  • Teaching each step of a skill intensively and repeatedly
  • Prompting the correct response and fading prompts
  • Positive reinforcement for correct responses and behaviors

The “Teach Me” program at Mitchell’s Place is designed to meet the needs of children who require more intense therapy and guidance to attain desired outcomes. A trained therapist works one-on-one with the child in a discrete trial format in a controlled environment. Each child receives an individualized program based on his or her specific needs and abilities. Progress is closely monitored through the continuous collection and analysis of each child’s performance data. Additionally, children in this program receive social interaction opportunities within the Early Learning Program classroom.

A number of scheduling options are available for this program, including half-day and full-day sessions.
