The After-School Social and Academic Enrichment Program

The After-School Social and Academic Enrichment Program (ASAP) educates children ages 6 to 18 years with high functioning autism or Asperger’s Syndrome.  The primary focus of this program is the advancement of social, academic and recreational skills.

The ASAP is designed to:

  • Teach highly individualized social skills
  • Facilitate generalization of skills through role play and interactive activities
  • Provide assistance with homework and basic academic skills
  • Increase independence, organization, and self-regulation
  • Expose students to a variety of hobbies, including sports, art and music
  • Facilitate friendships

Individualized, measurable goals are created for each student in the ASAP.  Data are collected once weekly during periods of natural observation.  Goals are considered mastered when the student independently demonstrates the skill on 4 of 5 consecutive occasions.  Progress is reported in three ways:

  1. A weekly note detailing progress on specific goals in +/- format.
  2. A monthly progress report summarizing weekly data in +/- format.
  3. An end of semester parent-teacher conference.

The ASAP offers classes from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. every Monday through Thursday throughout the school year.  Students typically attend two sessions per week.
