Mitchell's Place

Mitchell's Place is a comprehensive treatment center for children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). It was established in 2005 in response to the growing community need for specialized services for affected individuals and their families. The most recent studies conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calculated an average autism rate of 6.6 per 1000, or 1 in 150, making autism the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States.

In 2001, The National Research Council of The National Academies recommended that educational services begin as soon as a child is suspected of having an ASD.  The Council committee stressed the importance of early diagnosis, stating that prompt educational intervention is the key to greater prognosis in the mastery of fundamental communication, social and cognitive skills.

Mitchell's Place addresses these recommendations by offering a full range of therapies and educational opportunities specifically designed for individuals with ASD. Programs include the Early Learning Program and "Teach Me" for children ages 2 to 6 years, and the After-School Social and Academic Enrichment Program and Summer Camp for school-age children and adolescents. Diagnostic and therapeutic services available in our Multidisciplinary Resource Center include diagnostic evaluations, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychology and psychiatry. A multidisciplinary team of professionals that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of children and young adults with ASD oversees all programs and services.
